In recent years Aahwahan Foundation, a young NGO from Bangalore has been in the news to promote and support girls’ education In Karnataka they have adopted 1531 girl children. Aahwahan took an oath to facilitate these 1531 girls’ free education till class 12th and provide them with all necessary resources to complete their education. They are supporting multiple underprivileged schools with the vision of a long-term goal to ensure every student of any gender became completely competent and contributing part of society, especially all girls in India. We started to see this after its government campaign as well promoting girl education but is it enough?
Let’s see why it is necessary to educate our
girls. India is nearing becoming one of the superpowers, but we are still way
behind in gender equality as it has a terrible sex ratio of 940 females per
1000 males. due to our age-old traditions, a girl child is always seen as a liability
to the family. No matter how talented and ambitious she is, society still
considers them to be inferior to the boys. few of them manage to break free from
this chain and build their bright future most of them resign to their ill fate
where they suffer girl fetus abortions, domestic violence, and marital abuse. The
only answer to this is to make a girl independent by giving at least initial
education to her.
Educating a girl does not only support
herself but the whole society. It raises the standard of living for her and her
whole family. It will generate more employment opportunities. Being an extra
hand in the family for income raises them from the poverty line and boast the
country’s economy. Therefore, changing the mindset toward girls is very much
important for our country. Spreading girl education is more important than
making new schools. To spread this awareness among every individual Aahwahan
foundation is running various schemes and programs in several regions of
Bangalore along with government organizations.
Aahwahan foundation being the youngest NGO in Bangalore still manages to be recognized
as the best NGO in the state and is also now spread all over the country. Its
ideology is based on its founder philanthropist Mr. Braja Kishore Pradhan
to work on social and economic problems of society we need to work on the upliftment
of people way below the poverty line resulting in the upliftment of the whole
nation. Since the beginning of its journey in the year 2011, they have impacted
several underprivileged children by helping them in their education and career.
Let’s have a look at how Aahwahan put an
impact on girl education.
The volunteers of the Aahwahan foundation
have reached out door to door in multiple ruler areas of Karnataka and have
educated the parents about the importance of girl education and its benefit in
social and more importantly financial which encourage the parents to enroll
their girl in school for financial growth of the family.
The major issue now was in the drop-off
ratio of girl students in India. In ruler areas, a girl’s drop-off rate in
elementary is 5% and in secondary it highly increases to 35%. This raises the
question of why teenage girls are leaving school education in middle. Well,
there are many reasons for example traditional outlook regarding girls’
education, school being very far from home, abuse and safety concerns, lack of
affordable sanitary napkins, Child marriage, and pathetic school infrastructure
such as missing separate and functional toilets. Due to these kinds of reasons most
teenage girls become irregular in attending school or drop out before finishing
their school education. As per the numbers we see only one in every four girls
in our country completes school education. Due to covid from 2020 to 2022 in India,
there were 10 million girls at risk of not resuming school, but their birthright
education was in jeopardy, leaving a long dark shadow on their future.
Owing to this Aahwahan foundation
was the first to move their helping hands and came up with various girl
education initiatives for under privilege girls. Firstly, they have tied up
46 government schools across India and help to reach out to student
education at their doorstep with the help of a tablet or smartphone given by the
Aahwahan foundation with help of Infinera and a generic app such as
google meet ensuring that the problem of distance should not be the reason for
a girl’s drop off and continue and stay connected with their schools from home.
Aahwahan foundation is also adopting several girls’ education and sponsoring
their education till secondary standard.
Another great initiative ‘Education onwheels’ is a fully equipped computer lab on wheels mainly meant for girls
to gain computer knowledge at every corner of the village which they are
provided certificates from NIIT. For modern computers are the main reason for
their bread and butter. Making a girl learn about computer skills can open many
doors to her career. To tackle the main issue of sanitation for the girls Aahwahan
is providing girls with free and affordable sanitary napkins simultaneously
creating awareness of it. They are building good infrastructure in school like
for a school in a village they a build a road so that students and teaching
staff can reach to the school safely and quickly. In much-adopted government schools
Aahwahan foundation sperate regularly sanitized toilets for girls who are fully
equipped with everything they need. These all measure has shown the increased
number of girls’ enrolment in government schools proving the success of the Aahwahan
foundation wonder initiative toward girl education.
This has enraged and inspired not only other
NGOs and responsible citizens who can make a change in the country to join
hands with the Aahwahan foundation and work with them for every girl’s benefit.
So, we too request the readers if you want to make a change this the right to
support and be part of growth.
