Modern Sanitation in Government Schools

“Cleanliness is next to godliness” this quote from the memories of Gandhiji is perfect in it’s ideology. People have a moral duty to keep themselves and their surroundings clean and hygienic. As said that Schools are the modern versions of our holy temples and are an essential part of children’s life to gain cognitive and creative skills which guide an individual through their life and affects not only him but the whole society. Government school plays a vital role in India due to most of the population cannot afford modern private schools.  So is the school’s hygiene and sanitation. As in our country, only 40% of the population have hygienic and indoor toilets. The ratio is even less in our ruler areas which are about 20%. Due to this unhygienic condition, we have a higher number of people suffering due to diseases like diarrhea, cholera, and typhoid. This situation is identical in government schools where there is no sufficient sanitation done or sometimes even no toilets available. This situation worsens for girls where they are helpless during their periods due to this, many parents do not send their daughters to school due to it being unsafe. It is very important now to provide modern sanitation facilities to government schools because it will boast children especially girls enrollment in school and most importantly teach them the importance of cleanliness.

As we can see literally why government schools lack facilities compared to private schools, that is because of fewer funds provided by the government of India. In these situations, we see external help coming in to recuse government schools most from Noble NGOs such as the Aahwahan foundation. Aahwahan foundation is a Bangalore and Orrisa based NGO spread all over India Members of Aahwahan foundation and its CEO MR. Braja Kishore Pradhan have a single goal of helping poor people deal with their basic needs such as food and health education. They are running sanitation programs in government schools in Bangalore. They helped build multiple fully equipped washrooms in government schools for both boys and girls separately. A single washroom contained 6 commode toilets with flush, jet spray, and tiled walls it also has a big hand wash area with hand sanitizer and paper towels. These schools are now being powered by solar panel energies to provide free and 24hrs electricity to effective facilities which support exhaust fans and light helps in maintaining hygiene for students and especially girls. They have done great work in terms of lowering the number of diseases in schools due to contaminated water by 55 RO water purifiers which will ensure clear water in school. Aahwahan Foundation is also providing free sanitary pads to Government schools and ensuring both hygiene and awareness of using sanitary pads in rural areas of the country. These are the facilities that are contributing to modern sanitation in government schools. Due to this, children in these schools are healthy, bright, and also future self promoters of a “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” influencing others in the future.
